The Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship played into its third day Thursday under sporadic rains at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club in Taiwan's Taoyuan. Catching up from behind, Chinese Taipei's Ming-chuan Chen led with a tie in the third round with a 4-under-par 68, the best score of the day.

Chen shared the three-day lead with Australia's Rohan Blizard, both scoring a three-day total of 218. Chen, who advanced from a rank of 12, and also helped move Chinese Taipei team's place up to the third in team competition.

Seeking its fifth title in the tournament, the Australian team surpassed Japan and New Zealand and shared the leading place in group ranking with South Korea, both with a three-day total of 661. The Chinese Taipei was six strokes behind with 667.

Thailand ranked fourth place with 670, Japan and New Zealand fifth and sixth respectively with 672 and 675.

The golfers played first under a sunny sky that soon turned into drizzles and heavy rains, and the unsteady weather had affected their performances, especially their puttings on the green.

However, Chinese Taipei's Chen didn't seem to be affected by the weather. He made 24 putts in the 18 holes to record the best score of the day. He made birdies in all four par-5 holes, up to the green with his third hit. All together, he made six birdies but two bogeys toward the end when it began to rain heavily.

Chen said the milder wind condition enabled him to do better today. "I tried to do my best and hope to keep the title for individual golfer and also help my team win."

Australia's Rohan Blizard, the 2nd round leader, didn’t play well today at 75, with five bogeys and two birdies. He said the unsteady weather forced him to open and fold his umbrellas several times. The rain also forced him to slow down his pace today on the green, after he had adjusted to the faster pace yesterday, he said.

Fellow player Rick Kulacz hit a total of 69 today, with his good 28 putts in 18 holes as well as 7 birdies and 4 bogeys. He made a 12 feet birdie putt in the 10th hole and another more remarkable 25 feet in the 5th hole.

Kulacz shared the 15th place with fellow player Tim Steward at 227 in the third round.

Chinese Taipei's Chan Shih-chang dropped to the 10th place with 76 today, making a three-day total of 225.

The South Korean team moved from the third place to share the top place with Australia.
On Thursday, the team had its best performance of three days, with a three-person total of 217, including Bi-O Kim's 70, Woo-hyun Kim's 72 and Seung-Yul Noh's 75.

Japan dropped to the fifth place with a three-day total of 672 with all its four players failing to keep up their earlier performances. Japanese team group score is 232 today.

On the final round Friday, the leading teams will begin playing late. The day's play will begin at 7 a.m., with the last team beginning play at 8:50 a.m.
