The Nomura Cup of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Championship began the second round at the Sunrise Golf and Country Club in Taiwan's Taoyuan Oct. 3 and the competition was fierce. The Australian team, after a quiet day yesterday, flexed its muscle with Rohan Blizard's 4-under 68.

Blizard made six birdies and two bogeys and ranked top at 143 in the individual competition. His teammate Andrew Dodt hit 71 and shared the second with three other players at 147. They were also the two only players who are under-par on the 2nd round, contributing to the Australian team's rise to the second place in team competition from the fourth. However, the Australians fell short of overtaking the Japanese, who claimed the top by three strokes.

Chinese Taipei ranked 6th at 453 at the end of the 2nd round. Its top player is Shih-Chang Chan tied 10th in the individual competition, followed by Ming-Chuan Chen in the 12th place.

The four Japanese players performed equally well today with Shunsuke Sonoda and Yuki Usami at 73, Yuki Ito and Naoyuki Tamura at 74 and 75, respectively. Their group score, taken from its top three players, was 220 today and the team ranked top at 440 in the two rounds, up from yesterday's second.

Yuki Ito and Naoyuki Tamura shared the second place in individual competition at 147. Another ranked second is New Zealand's James Gill who did not play well today at 77.

South Korean player Bi-O Kim, who shared the first place as an individual player in the first round, also faltered today at 79 and dropped to 10th place at 149. Both players said they have to be more careful under the windy weather and in the green.

Ming-Chuan Chen was Chinese Taipei's top player today at 72.

The South Korean team, which ranked first yesterday in group competition, did less well today as the players were under a lot of pressure with several Korean coaches and golf association directors monitoring the game closely. Besides Bi-O Kim, two players were also at 77. Its top player today was Seung-Yul Noh at 72. South Korea ranked third place at 226 today and 444 overall.

The number one individual player Rohan Blizard of Australia was winner of this year's Australian amateur golf tournament while Andrew Dodt, who was in the second place, won last year's Malaysian amateur golf tournament and was on the Australian team which garnered the 2005 Nomura Cup. Blizard performed well today with 29 putts in 18 holes and he had six birdies and two bogeys.

However, the other Australian players did less well today with Tim Stewart's 79 and Rick Kulacz's 80 and therefore the team fell behind Japan.

Faris Al Mazrui of the United Arab Emirates was disqualified in the individual competition for mistakenly reporting his score in the first round but he can still participate in the group competition.

Awards will be presented to the top three individual players and the top three teams, as well as the player who hits the best score of the four rounds. A total of 71 players from 18 countries took part in the tournament.
