 South Korea Leads the Way.
Asia-Pacific Team Championships–Nomura Cup, 2007/10/2-5, Sunrise Golf & Country Club, Taoyang , Taiwan
“It was a difficult play today with the strong winds and also the hard to read putting line on the green.” he said, “But I hope to get better on Wednesday.”
The Asia-Pacific Team Championships–Nomura Cup opened the first round at the Sunrise Golf and Country Club in Taoyuan. The host Chinese Taipei team shot 230, sharing the seventh place as a team with Malaysia. The best performing Taiwanese player is Shih-chang Chan tied with other four players on the 12th place at 75.

South Korea's Bi-O Kim shot 2-under at 70 to share the individual lead with New Zealand's James Gill of New Zealand, and lead South Korea team at 2 strokes over Japan at 218.

Japan's Naoyuki Tamura was also two strokes behind at 72, sharing the third place with Malaysia's Mohd Mohiyadeen.

The Australian team, seeking the fifth title in a row, shared the fourth place with Thailand at 225.

Of the Chinese Taipei team, the three players’s scores were selected as the team score on the first round are Shih-chang Chan (75), Chen-shih Chiang (77) and Tao Huang (78). Shih-chang Chan maintained at par in the first eight holes, but double bogeyed the 9th as well as the 13th holes.

Bi-O Kim of South Korea, a 17-year-old high school student, ranked the top with 70. He did well with both his putts and hits and excelled with three birdies. Twice, he putted from 3-5 feet straight into two holes, and the longest putting is 10-feet on the 10th hole. He only bogeyed at 3rd rd hole with a 3-putt.

Kim has 9 years golfing experience and this is his first appearance at the APGC tournament. He ranks 2nd among Korea's amateur golfers but already won three championships this year.

New Zealand's Gill also did well in putting today, with a total of 31, and with several of his shots landing sharply in the middle of the fairway. He made three birdies with putts from 6-9 feet away. The only bogey was made at the eighth hole, with the ball landing into bunker and rough. He ranks second in New Zealand.


Awards will be presented to the top three individual players and the top three teams, as well as the player who hits the best score of the four rounds.

A total of 71 players from 18 countries took part in the tournament to compete for the most honored champion in the Asia Pacific region.
